Following the Water

What does this day have to offer?
Through the gutters runs a recent rain,
so I’m following the water.

I regret the end of summer,
worries and wants flooding my brain.
What does this day have to offer?

Spring promised but did not deliver;
opportunities flow down the drain,
so I’m following the water.

There was little snow this winter,
when it melted, little to gain.
What does this day have to offer?

Our last fall was full of fodder,
but we have drenched a new year’s grain,
so I’m following the water.

I have no son, have no daughter;
only my words and thoughts will remain.
What does this day have to offer?
Unsure, I’m following the water.
